Many people believe that they are Christians. They may believe this way because of church membership. They live in a "Christian home". They were baptized or confirmed. They may believe that they are basically good people, maybe they believe in universalism, everyone will go to heaven.
Even among evangelical Christians where people believe in a born again experience, we have often failed to show people how lost they really are. We have neglected to take an individual through the word of God to show them what God requires of them. We fail to show them that it is the moral law of God (10 commandments) that reveals the sin that is in their hearts. Look at the sermon on the mount in Mathew 5,6,7. Do you see what Jesus does here? He upholds the law, gives it it's proper meaning, and shows the people that God has a high standard, that they in and of themselves have never attained to.
We tend to live in an age of doing things the quick and easy way, and it has done much damage to the message of the gospel as presented in the scriptures.
My desire is to see people truly born again, people brought to a deep conviction of sin, made to realize their total inability to save themselves. I desire to see people utterly casting themselves upon the mercy of God through Jesus Christ's vicarious sacrifice, and being born again through the Spirit of God.
